Learn More About Ice Fishing Clothing

Make sure your apparel is built to handle frigid conditions on the hard water. Stay protected with ice fishing clothing from Field & Stream. You’ll find waterproof ice fishing bibs, jackets and a great selection of hats and gloves to keep you warm all day. Shop trusted brands like Clam®, Frabill®, Striker® and more.

Buying Considerations

What clothing do you need for ice fishing? It’s best to dress in layers—this ensures you’re prepared for extreme cold while giving you the option to remove layers if you get too warm. Start with a sweat-wicking baselayer to wear against your skin—consider a heavyweight style for the coldest conditions. Your mid-layer should hold in heat but be breathable—think polyester and merino wool. Finally, your outer-shell layer should be heavy-duty in order to handle the rigorous demands of ice fishing. Ideally your outer shell will be completely windproof and waterproof.

Ice fishing bibs are a great option for your outer layer. Ice fishing requires a lot of kneeling, so look for bibs with reinforced knees.

Some anglers don’t like to wear ice fishing gloves while setting bait and playing fish, but you’ll definitely want to have a pair on hand when walking to your spot, drilling or enjoying a cold beverage after snagging a trophy. Look for gloves that are 100% waterproof and insulated.

Don’t forget about your feet. Check out our huge selection of warm winter boots. Consider a waterproof pair that will keep your feet dry when drilling through the ice—nothing will end your day of ice fishing faster than cold, wet feet.
